BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE – Form is temporary, but class and heritage endure forever.
On Sunday, 24 May 2026, under the crisp, clear blue skies of Bulawayo, history did not just unfold—it was poured, tasted, and celebrated. In an intimate, star-studded shindig at the Kings Kraal, Highlanders Football Club officially leaped into the future of sports business with the grand unveiling of the Highlanders African Gin (Bosso Ngenkani).
The event, which seamlessly blended cultural pride with a sharp, “no-nonsense” corporate approach, marked a historic first for Zimbabwean football. Draped in our traditional, timeless black and white, an elegant crowd of club executives, government officials, business leaders, and legends gathered to witness Bosso become the first football club in the country to launch its own commercial liquor line.
Sport is an Economy
The event was graced by the Guest of Honor, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Hon. Raj Modi, who commended the club’s visionary approach to self-sustainability as we march toward our monumental 100-year centennial.
“The sports economy has become an important driver of growth globally, and Zimbabwe is no exception,” Hon. Modi noted during his keynote address. “Today’s partnership between Highlanders Football Club and Comrades Beverages is a perfect example of the type of collaboration we want to see more of… It demonstrates confidence in local brands, confidence in our sporting institutions, and confidence in the future of Bulawayo.”
The sentiment was echoed by business analyst Morris Mpala (Mr. Brown), who aptly stated that “Bosso has brought sexy back in terms of the football business value chain” through lucrative, win-win collaborative partnerships.
This isn’t just a vanity sponsorship; it is a massive commercial undertaking. Under the initial 24-month agreement with the youthful and ambitious Dr. Langa Moyo-led Comrades Beverages, Highlanders FC will command a staggering 70% of revenues generated from sales (and a 50/50 split on all auction sales).
The Babylonian Waters: Infused with Heritage
But what does the future taste like? According to those lucky enough to sample the product during the research and launch phases, it tastes remarkably smooth.
The Highlanders African Gin is a masterpiece of local research and development, uniquely infused with the Resurrection Plant (Umafa-avuke)—a poetic nod to the undying, resilient spirit of Bosso, which has stood the test of time since 1926. The striking 750ml bottle (40% Vol) features our dominant, bold black vertical stripes, with each exclusive bottle in the initial batch autographed by living Bosso Legends.
The product will hit the market countrywide and regionally this coming Friday, 29 May 2026, coming in two distinct variations:

The Collector’s Edition: USD 25.00 (or ZiG equivalent)
The Match Edition: USD 10.00 (or ZiG equivalent)
Proving the commercial viability of the brand, 10 cases were instantly snapped up on pre-orders during the launch, with local retail giant Liquor Hub taking the lion’s share. Fans can also look forward to the introduction of Highlanders Vodka in a couple of weeks, followed by a local mviyo-flavored variation.

A Classy Precursor to Africa Day
The launch traded the traditional Soweto stadium chants for high-level networking, corporate handshakes, and a shared vision for financial independence. Guests later mingled over plates of exquisite traditional cuisine, winding down the beautiful afternoon ahead of the Africa Day Picnic headlined by the Djembe Monks.
As the Bosso@100 Committee Elkana Scott Dube jokingly reflected while thanking stakeholders for their immense support: “I hope it’s not the Gin talking, but words won’t be enough because of this beautiful engagement.”
1926 was undoubtedly a great year, but 2026 is proving to be even better. We are raising the bar, redefining what a football club can achieve, and setting a precedent that others will only see years from now.
To our partners, our board, the executive, the media, and most importantly, the passionate Bosso fans—Siyabonga, Twalumba Loko, Tatenda, Ke a leboga.
The market awaits. Let’s go humble it.
