Highlanders FC fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against FC Platinum in a tightly contested encounter at Mandava Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The match got off to a lively start, with Bosso pushing forward in search of an early breakthrough. However, it was the hosts who struck first in the 16th minute through Oscar Bhebhe, giving FC Platinum a 1-0 lead.
Highlanders responded positively and were rewarded in the 26th minute following a brilliant link-up between Kudakwashe Mahachi and Benjamin Adeogun. Mahachi made a strong run into the box after being picked out by Adeogun before he was brought down, leaving the referee with no option but to point to the penalty spot.
Adeogun stepped up and calmly converted the resulting penalty in the 27th minute to bring Bosso level.
The two sides went into the half-time break tied at 1-1.
Highlanders made changes in the second half as Brighton Ncube and Prince Ndlovu replaced Isaac Ngoma and Royn Nyamono. Mongameli Tshuma was later introduced for Never Rauzhi, while Reason Sibanda and Lawrence Mhlanga came on for Adeogun and Andrew Mbeba in the closing stages.
Despite both sides searching for a decisive goal, neither could find the breakthrough, and the referee’s final whistle confirmed a share of the spoils at Mandava.
