Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in front of a packed Barbourfields Stadium on Matchday 19 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, with both sides producing moments of quality in another memorable chapter of Zimbabwe’s biggest football fixture.

Highlanders started brightly, pinning Dynamos back in the opening exchanges. Two early corner kicks and sustained pressure kept Tatenda Makoni busy, while Mongameli Tshuma and Benjamin Odegun repeatedly threatened the visitors’ defence.

Dynamos gradually settled into the contest and nearly took the lead in the 34th minute when Frank Agyemang capitalised on a loose ball after Arron Ngwenya failed to claim a delivery. His looping effort struck the crossbar, giving Bosso a timely reprieve.

Just minutes later, Highlanders responded with an attack of their own before the game’s decisive first-half moment arrived. Mongameli Tshuma was brought down inside the penalty area, prompting referee Brighton Chimene to point to the spot. Benjamin Adeogun stepped up and calmly converted the penalty in the 41st minute, sending Barbourfields into celebration and giving Bosso a 1-0 lead.

Dynamos almost found an immediate response in first-half stoppage time, but Agyemang headed over from a Mavhunga cross as Highlanders carried their slender advantage into the break.

The visitors emerged from halftime with renewed purpose and deservedly found an equaliser in the 54th minute. Perfect Chikwende showed excellent composure to work his way past several defenders before laying the ball into the path of Frank Agyemang, who finished to bring Dynamos level at 1-1.

Both coaches looked to influence the contest with substitutions. Highlanders introduced Never Rauzhi before later making a triple change, bringing on Isaac Ngoma, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Shepherd Mhlanga in search of a winner. Dynamos also refreshed their side with changes of their own as the intensity remained high.

After four minutes of added time, the referee brought proceedings to a close with honours even.

Highlanders will take positives from a disciplined performance and Adeogun’s composed penalty finish.
