Highlanders FC were forced to settle for a point after playing out a 1-1 draw with Simba Bhora FC at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match began at a lively tempo, with both sides enjoying spells of possession in a balanced opening. Ten minutes in, neither team had managed to gain the upper hand as the contest remained evenly poised.
The first real opportunity fell to Highlanders in the 20th minute. Isaac Ngoma burst past his marker and raced through on goal, but Simba Bhora goalkeeper William Thole reacted brilliantly to deny the forward and keep the scores level.
Simba Bhora broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Blessing Ndereki found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Highlanders responded positively and were rewarded just before the interval. In the 43rd minute, Royn Nyamono produced a composed finish to restore parity, sending the teams into the half-time break locked at 1-1.
The second half resumed with both teams searching for a winner. Highlanders introduced fresh legs in the 59th minute, with Kudakwashe Mahachi, Mongameli Tshuma and Reason Sibanda replacing Luckmore Mutumbi, Never Rauzhi and Benjamin Adeogun.
A further change followed in the 76th minute as Prince Ndlovu came on in place of goalscorer Royn Nyamono.
With 90 minutes played, four minutes of added time were signalled by the fourth official, but neither side could find a decisive goal.
At the final whistle, the points were shared after an entertaining contest, with Highlanders and Simba Bhora playing out a 1-1 draw at Barbourfields Stadium.
