Highlanders FC were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Manica Diamonds FC at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon, despite creating several promising opportunities in an entertaining encounter.
Bosso started the match with purpose, looking to take control of proceedings in front of their home supporters.
Shelton Moyo registered the first notable attempt in the fifth minute, firing towards goal, but the Manica Diamonds goalkeeper was well positioned to make a comfortable save.
Highlanders came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute when Mongameli Tshuma unleashed a brilliant effort towards the top corner, only to see his strike crash against the crossbar.
Highlanders continued searching for an opening and nearly found one just before the break. In the 43rd minute, Kudakwashe Mahachi combined beautifully with Ackim Nkomo, threading a perfectly weighted pass into his path. Nkomo fired towards goal, but the visiting goalkeeper produced an impressive save to keep the scores level.
The two sides headed into the dressing rooms deadlocked at 0–0.
Highlanders returned for the second half with renewed energy, making a double substitution as Reason Sibanda and Prince Ndlovu replaced Brighton Makopa and Never Rauzhi.
The changes brought fresh attacking impetus, with Bosso increasing the pressure and pushing forward in search of the breakthrough.
Prince Ndlovu almost made the difference in the 61st minute, unleashing a powerful strike towards the bottom corner, but the woodwork once again denied Highlanders as his effort struck the post.
With 20 minutes remaining, the technical team introduced Andrew Mbeba and Benjamin Odeogun in place of Mvelo Khoza and Ackim Nkomo as Highlanders continued their pursuit of a winning goal.
An injury to Nomore Chinyerere forced another change in the 80th minute, with Lawrence Mhlanga coming on as his replacement.
Despite eight minutes of added time, neither side managed to find the decisive breakthrough, and the referee’s final whistle confirmed a share of the spoils.
It was an afternoon of missed opportunities for Highlanders, who struck the woodwork twice and created several encouraging attacking moments but were ultimately unable to turn their chances into goals.
Tawanda M. Shenje was named Man of the Match, earning recognition for his performance in the Highlanders colours.
Bosso will take encouragement from their attacking display and determination, while looking to improve their finishing in the matches ahead.
