It was a clean sweep of the highest order for the Highlanders FC youth development teams, who put on a footballing masterclass to claim all 9 points on offer against River Plate.
U13s Set the Tone with Dominant Display
The day kicked off with the Under-13 squad setting a soaring standard for the rest of the juniors. Showing no signs of stage fright, the youngest Bosso boys controlled the tempo from the first whistle to the last, leaving River Plate chasing shadows.
The relentless pressure paid off handsomely, with Delight Chikofa, Joshua Mbwanari, and Mbongisi Nyathi all finding the back of the net. The 3-0 scoreline was a testament to a flawless, rock-solid team performance that gave River Plate’s defense zero breathing room.
Makizeni Brace Propels U15s to Victory
Looking to keep the momentum alive, the Under-15s stepped onto the pitch and delivered a masterclass in clinical football. The star of the show was undoubtedly Quinton Makizeni, whose brilliant brace proved to be the difference-maker.
Makizeni’s sharp instincts and clinical finishing secured a 2-0 victory, but the win was built on a foundation of stellar teamwork and sheer grit. The U15s dictated the park, proving that the future of the club’s midfield and attack is in incredibly safe hands.
U17s Cap Off Perfect Day with Six-Goal Thriller
The finale belonged to the Under-17s, who participated in a high-octane, six-goal thriller that tested their character. Despite River Plate fighting hard to claw two goals back, the Bosso boys showed the mental fortitude of seasoned veterans.
Dennis Ndlovu, Simbarashe Mareya, and Peter Mazhindu all produced vital goals to keep Highlanders in the driving seat. However, the fairytale moment of the match belonged to Ryan Green. Stepping up from the U15 squad to test his mettle against older opposition, Green rose to the occasion magnificently, netting a brilliant fourth goal to seal the 4-2 victory.
Deep Talent Ranks and a Bright Future
Green’s crucial goal perfectly encapsulated the theme of the day: the talent pool running through the Highlanders youth ranks is exceptionally deep.
Securing all 9 points away from home against a tough opponent is no small feat. As the club marches forward, this weekend’s emphatic sweep proves that the Siyinqaba spirit is alive and thriving in the next generation. The senior team can look on with immense pride—and plenty of excitement—at the stars of tomorrow.
